York 20mm
£7.99/m²
It’s no wonder York 20mm is one of the best-selling turfs in our Classic range. Ideal for those new to artificial grass, it has a short pile that makes it super easy to care for. It’s also soft to the touch while maintaining resilience.
So whether you’re looking for the perfect lawn for a small family garden or for a larger commercial space, we can’t recommend York 20mm enough.
Short, natural-looking pile
At 20mm, this grass has the shortest pile in our collection. It provides a comfortable sensation underfoot while being very straightforward to maintain - the shorter blades mean you can easily see any dirt and debris. With this in mind, it’s an excellent, affordable choice for anyone who hasn’t had an artificial lawn before.
We also love how the combination of straight polyethylene and curled polypropylene micro-nerve yarns gives our York 20mm grass a realistic, upright appearance from all angles.
If you want something with a more plush feel, explore our 30mm, 35mm, and 40mm pile products.
Family-friendly
As with all of our artificial grass options, York 20mm is perfectly safe for pets and children, making it the perfect play area. However, if you want a pet-specific design that includes extra odour protection, we recommend our Pet Premium 30mm for your four-legged friends.
UV stabilisation
This lawn includes UV stabilisation which will protect it from losing its colour - so you won’t need to worry about fading or yellowing even on the brightest summer days. We’re so confident in the vibrancy of York 20mm that we guarantee UV protection for seven years.
Manufactured by Euroturf to the highest quality standards, this beautiful lawn will add life to any garden and look great for many years to come.
Installation
The beauty of an artificial lawn option like York 20mm is that it’s quick and easy to install. With a few key accessories, you can follow our step-by-step installation guide and soon have a natural-looking grass area to enjoy.
To make the process as smooth as possible and to ensure the best results, here are a few extra installation tips:
- You can interchange 2m and 4m widths of this grass, but 5m widths can only be used with other 5m pieces to ensure batch consistency.
- Select the right base material for your ground surface type - you can also install a shockpad underlay to add extra softness and bounce underfoot.
- Take care when joining your grass panels. We recommend watching our video for in-depth advice to achieve seamless joins.
- Include a weed membrane to keep pesky plant growth at bay.
Maintenance
Because York 20mm has a shorter pile, it’s especially easy to care for. However, there are still some essential maintenance tasks that will keep your lawn looking fresh and vibrant.
- Regularly remove any debris, like twigs and leaves (and any pet mess if you have a dog or cat).
- Using a soft-tine rake or firm brush will help keep the blades nice and fluffy.
- It’s important to rinse your lawn regularly and carry out a deeper clean about once a month.
- Avoid placing heavy garden furniture on your grass, as it can flatten the blades.
- Don’t place barbecues or fire pits directly on your lawn - the heat can melt the fibres.
- Similarly, make sure there are no mirrors or reflective surfaces facing your grass. The glare can also lead to melting.

Installing artificial grass is a straightforward DIY project for most gardens, patios, and balconies. The key to a long-lasting, natural-looking finish is preparing a solid, well-drained base before the grass is rolled out.
For soil areas, the existing turf is removed and replaced with a compacted sub-base (typically MOT Type 1 or granite dust),followed by a sharp sand or grano dust laying course. This creates a smooth, stable surface that prevents dips and improves drainage. For hard surfaces such as concrete, the grass can usually be fitted directly using adhesive.
Once the base is ready, the grass is rolled out, trimmed to fit, joined where required, and secured around the edges. Brushing the fibres upright and adding kiln-dried sand (if recommended by the manufacturer) helps the pile sit naturally and improves durability.
Most installations are completed in a day for an average garden.

Artificial grass is designed to be low maintenance, but a small amount of regular care will keep it looking its best for years.
For general upkeep, simply remove leaves and debris with a stiff brush or leaf blower and brush the pile against the grain to keep the fibres upright. Occasional rinsing with water will wash away dust and pollen and help the lawn stay fresh.
For homes with pets, solid waste should be removed as normal and the area lightly hosed down. Most modern artificial grasses have a permeable backing, allowing liquids to drain through easily. A mild detergent or artificial grass cleaner can be used for a deeper clean if needed.
To prevent flattening in high-traffic areas, brush the surface periodically. With this basic care, a good quality artificial lawn will maintain its colour and shape for many years.
